My lifelong love of Spain began the day I picked up and read a book called The Royal Road to Romance by Richard Halliburton, an American writer and adventurer. I couldn’t have been much older than ten, but he set my imagination on fire when he wrote so movingly about a night he had spent alone inside the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.
Years later, the haunting beauty of the Alhambra inspired me to write my work of historical fiction, Ernestine. Set in 16th century Spain, it follows one woman’s quest for belonging and purpose in a world not her own.
I explore those timeless themes of finding connection and meaning in much of my writing. My coming-of-age story, Pheemie’s War, also evokes that sense of a young woman struggling to find her place.
Ultimately, I hope my transportive historical fiction featuring strong women finding their place in the world inspires you to embrace your own inner courage.
I hope you enjoy my books.
